The Gulf Standardization Organization for the Arab States (GSO) is a regional entity established by a decision of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf during its 22nd session held in Muscat on 30-31 December 2001.

This authority’s membership includes the countries of the Cooperation Council, namely the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Yemen, which became a member in January 2010.

The primary objective of this organization is to harmonize and consolidate various standardization efforts while ensuring their effective implementation. This is achieved through close cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies of the member states.

The ultimate aim is to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of industries across the Gulf region, fostering the growth and advancement of their production and service sectors. By doing so, the organization aims to facilitate seamless trade exchange, protect consumers, preserve the environment, and safeguard public health. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen the Gulf economy and meet the requirements of the customs union and the Gulf common market.
